A: This election is going to be a difficult one for the nation.

B: I know. It just shows how divided the country is.

A: The two main candidates have fundamental differences on every issue.

B: Maybe I’ll just vote for the Green Party.

A: 이번 선거는 나라에 있어서 힘든 일이 될 거야.

B: 그러게. 그저 나라가 얼마나 분열됐는지 보여줄 뿐이야.

A: 두 명의 유력후보는 모든 이슈에 대해서 근본적인 차이점을 갖고 있어.

B: 나는 그냥 녹색당에 투표할까봐.

fundamental 란?

형용사로서 ‘핵심적인’, ‘근본적인’, ‘필수적인’, ‘본질적인’이라는 사전적 의미로 사용한다. 어원은 ‘근원적인’, ‘기초적인’이란 뜻을 가진 라틴어 fundamentalis에서 유래했으며 유사한 표현으로는 basic, essential, profound, elementary 등이 있다.
