B: It was more like a mud-slinging contest.

A: That’s true. The more vigorous the attack, the more press they got.

B: I guess that‘s one way to get free press.

 

A: 미국대선은 내가 한번도 본 적 없는 박빙이었어.

B: 진흙탕 싸움 대회 같던데.

A: 사실이야. 격렬하게 공격할수록 더 많은 기사가 나오게 되지.

B: 무료로 기사를 낼 수 있는 방법인 것 같아.

vigorous란?

vigorous는 형용사로서 ‘활발한’, ‘활기찬’, ‘격렬한’, ‘건강한’이라는 사전적 의미를 가지고 있다. 어원은 ‘힘 있는’, ‘원기 왕성한’의 뜻을 지닌 라틴어 vigorosus에서 유래했다. 유사한 표현으로는 energetic, active, lively, dynamic 등이 있다.
